On Friday, June 4 at noon, San Diego Pride presents a live Q & A with California Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins. She represents the 39th Senate District, which includes San Diego, Coronado, Del Mar, Solana Beach, and parts of unincorporated Rancho Santa Fe. Atkins holds many firsts including the first lesbian to be the Speaker of Assembly in 2014 and the first woman and first openly LGBTQ person to lead the Legislature’s upper house as Senate President pro Tempore.
Atkins has authored landmark legislation promoting equality for transgender Californians by ensuring they can have their true gender identification listed on driver’s licenses, birth certificates, and death certificates. She has also led the charge to expand HIV/AIDS treatment and prevention services, and secured funding for housing homeless LGBTQ youth. To RSVP to the event, go to sdpride.org/live.

2 Groovie Movie Revieoos for Joon…
I Do…Starring Jamie Lynn Sigler, Alice Witt, Maurice Compte 2013… on Amazon Prime
For this month of the wedding, I came across a fairly weird spin on marriage. What it is, what it isn’t, family loyalty, connectedness, happiness or not, for all of the above is included in this tangled web of a premise. (trigger warning, tragedy in the beginning) But it’s a fascinating tale of the twists and turns of true love, loyalty, boundaries and finally the realization that everyone deserves happiness and love for themselves as well as giving and sharing it with others.
Man Made….Starring Mason Caminiti, Dominic Chilko, Kennie Story 2019…on Amazon Prime
This honest, real life piece is about 4 transgender men as they prepare to compete in the only Trans Men Body Building competition in the world. The documentary has widened my vision and understanding of just how alike we all are. We are all human beings who want and need the same things in life…self-esteem and worth, acceptance, affirmation, and love. It’s very well done and should be watched and absorbed by anyone who is seeking true allyship in our rainbow family/community. (FYI…much swearing in a particular segment)
ICYMI: A Place to Call Home
On May 1st, in honor of our AAPI families, we premiered a new film, A Place to Call Home. Filmmaker Stephanie Tran (they/them), a young, queer, Vietnamese filmmaker, approached PFLAG National last year hoping to amplify and honor LGBTQ+ Asian, Asian-American, and Pacific Islander voices. Then COVID hit, and the way films were being made had to change, quickly–putting the project on pause. We are so glad that, one year later, Stephanie is finally able to bring their vision to life. We are #PFLAGProud to elevate our beloved AAPI families–and Stephanie’s work–in honor of AAPI Heritage Month.

Just In Time For Pride Month 🇺🇸 ️
U.S. Embassies can once again fly Rainbow Pride Flags. With President Biden’s blessing, Secretary of State Antony Blinken has given U.S. embassies and consulates around the world blanket permission to fly the Pride flag on the same pole as the American flag.
The ruling was made in time for rainbow flags to be flown on May 17, the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia and throughout Pride month in June. Authorization was given to the embassies to fly the flags year-round in a show of universal support. However, the authorization obtained by Foreign Policy that the choice lies with leaders at each diplomatic mission to decide if displaying the flag is “appropriate in light of local conditions.”
