A MESSAGE FROM PFLAG SDC PRESIDENT NANCY COLBERT

Friend, It’s been over 100 days since the beginning of the new administration. It has been overwhelming. There have been many attacks on our democracy. While this is devastating and scary, we must remember that we have overcome many challenges in the past. When our country was founded, women and Black people couldn’t vote. But we made some progress. The Civil Rights Movement exposed and outlawed many injustices. We made progress with LGBTQ+ and women’s rights. Title IX prohibited sex-based discrimination in any school receiving funding from the federal government.

However, even before the flurry of executive orders, we still had a long way to go. Things were not perfect and there was still much work to be done. There is no doubt that the recent events have set us back. It will require the work of many good people to overcome this. I have faith that we can do it together.

To quote John Lewis, “Get in good trouble, necessary trouble, and help redeem the soul of America.”

Please get involved as much as you can. Donate, join, and volunteer. Our democracy is at stake.

To help keep PFLAG SDC strong, we are rebuilding our board to meet community needs. We need people skilled in publicity, community organizing, media, health care, public speaking, education, bookkeeping, or fundraising. Please send any recommendations to admin@pflagsdc.org.
